Soaking the Nikken Water Filter

I’m pretty sure that the soaking instructions on the Waterfall box, but there are a couple things I wanted to make sure you know, prior to soaking your Nikken water filter. Here is a quick rundown:

Nikken Water Filter Soaking Instructions Soaking the filter is so very important. Be sure to leave the filter soaking in cold or room temperature water over night and you will be certain to have a filter that’s ready to use by the morning.

  • When you are soaking the filter, you want to take out the big white pre-filter pad and the four small white pre-filter pads. The four small pads don’t seem like they should be coming out, but they do, and it’s an important step! All of those white pads soak in water overnight as well.
  • When soaking the filter, it shouldn’t be covered with water, so just fill water up to about the purple rim, around the filter.
  • When you take the white pre-filter pads out of the water to put them back into the main filter, give them a squeeze first. Squeezing out the water will help get out any trapped air bubbles, and this will allow for a smoother filtration.
  • When you are done soaking the filter, running water through the top and letting it run out through the bottom, for about 20-30 seconds or so, will be helpful.
  • When you put the filter into the Waterfall, don’t be afraid to press down firmly on the filter so that the seal is really tight. If the seal is not tight, then obviously you’re not going to get the best results. I did that wrong the first time and the water leaked between the top and bottom compartments. It wasn’t the end of the world, but it did mean that I needed to take the whole thing apart, dry everything off, and start again.
  • For the first 1-2 run throughs on a new filter, the water will probably not taste the best. It just needs a bit of time. The first water is still really good water, but bottling it up and using it for cooking, washing veggies, or for the plants would be a good plan- only because it doesn’t taste as good for that initial period as it will after a couple of run throughs.
  • The mineral stones go in the Bottom compartment. Some people think they go in the top, but they go in the bottom :)
Ok, yay! You have your Waterfall filter soaked and installed! I’m so pleased that you will be drinking the best water on the planet. Animals LOVE this water, too!
